Transforming Lives with Trauma-Sensitive Evidence-Based Practices

At Ruby's Place, we sincerely appreciate the profound process of healing from trauma. We recognize that survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking require more than just support; they need a nurturing and evidence-based approach to recovery. This is why our unwavering commitment lies in implementing trauma-sensitive practices, and approaches rooted in science, compassion, and empathy. Our aim is not just to provide assistance but to empower survivors, helping them regain control over their lives, heal, and find hope in their journey towards recovery.

What Are Trauma-Sensitive Evidence-Based Practices?

Trauma-sensitive evidence-based practices are therapeutic techniques and approaches that have been rigorously researched and proven effective in helping individuals cope with and recover from trauma.

Here are some trauma-sensitive evidence-based practices we use at our agency:

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT):

  • Uses mindfulness and acceptance strategies from CBT practices

  • Manages emotional dysregulation resulting from trauma

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT):

  • Addresses relationship issues like communication, conflicts, infidelity, and emotional distance

  • Commonly used in both couples and individual therapy

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT):

  • Conducted over a specific amount of sessions

  • Effectively reduces PTSD symptoms in trauma survivors, including combat-related trauma, sexual assault, and childhood abuse.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR):

  • Structured therapy

  • Treats PTSD by helping individuals process traumatic memories through bilateral stimulation

Seeking Safety:

  • For individuals who have a history of trauma and have turned to substance use or addiction as a way to cope

  • Addresses both trauma and addiction

Motivational Interviewing:

  • For individuals resistant to change

  • Respects the individual’s autonomy and enhances their motivation for positive changes

Harm Reduction:

  • For individuals who have experienced trauma and may be engaging in high-risk behaviors

  • Seeks to meet them where they are without judgment by providing support and resources

Trauma-sensitive evidence-based practices empower survivors to regain control over their lives by reducing the symptoms of trauma. By embracing these practices, Ruby's Place offers a path to healing, resilience, and hope for survivors on their journey to recovery.
